These boundaries and strict commands aren’t God’s way of keeping his people at an arm’s length…but the only way he can bring them near. As he brings them near, he deals with their sin so that they can dwell with him. They cannot remain the same sinners and remain in his presence…so he draws them near, begins to deal with their sin, and begins to heal them. But we often choose to see all the boundaries and think…God’s trying to keep us at an arm’s length. It’s because we profoundly misunderstand God’s Law through believing things about him that aren’t true. We think he puts these boundaries in place so that we can prove how acceptable we are.
