The Spirit and the Word

When we get to know someone really well, we can recognize the sound of their voice…we know who they are when we pick up the phone or hear them in the next room. But we don’t hear God’s voice like that, do we? But, when you think about it, that’s not the only way we learn what someone sounds like. As we get to know people, we also get to know how they communicate…the things they tend to say, the words they use, and the things they wouldn’t say. So, with people we know really well, we can know their voice in a letter or a text or a card. We get to know someone’s voice like this by actually listening to what they say… So, how do we know what God sounds like? By reading his Word. The more we do that, the more we can recognize it when he is speaking…and the more we recognize it when something doesn’t quite sound like him too. To learn things like that we have to keep reading the Bible.
