You Shall Not Covet

Coveting has to do with the desire to take…to acquire more and more for ourselves and keep it all to ourselves. Isaiah says that God’s servant would have no beauty that we would desire him…our eyes, darkened by sin, didn’t see him as beautiful or desirable. In our sin we always settle for less than the real satisfaction of our heart’s desire. But in giving himself up for us (for sin, for freedom from the realm of death, etc.)—he gave himself. The Father desired his people, so he gave his Son. The Son desired his people…so he gave himself.
